Dorit Ravid - short laudatio by Steven Gillis#

Dorit Ravid a linguist with a genuinely deep knowledge of the Hebrew language in all its respects. As such she contributed significantly to the distribution of better and deeper knowledge about Hebrew in the international linguistic society, and especially the intricacies of the Hebrew -- Semitic – morphology, with its own particularities which she has been able to analyse and explain in innovative and enlightening ways.

Dorit Ravid is also a genuine psycholinguist with an interest in several aspects of human linguistic processing. Exemplary is her work on the early acquisition of Hebrew morphology. Numerous are her studies of the acquisition of Hebrew morphology in typically developing as well as disordered populations (dyslexia, specific language impairment, cochlea implant children), native inhabitants of Israel as well as immigrants and other second language learners (especially those from Russia). She contributed to our understanding of the acquisition of spoken Hebrew as well as the acquisition of the written language, which poses particular problems for the learner -- unique to the language in several respects.
