Eva Carina Helena Keskitalo - Biography#


E. Carina H. Keskitalo is Professor of Political Science at the Department of Geography, Umeå University, Sweden, and guest professor at the Unit for Landscape Studies at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå. She is the (co) editor or author of some ten books and several special issues, as well as the (co) author of more than a hundred and thirty peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters.

Her work has focused on the politics of the development of the Arctic as an international region, and on environmental policy and climate change adaptation in a comparative context.

She is a contributing author to the 2014 IPCC report, to the second Arctic Human Development Report, and a member of the Group of Chief Science Advisors to the European Commission as well as vice chair of the national Swedish expert expert committee on adaptation to climate change. She received the Nils Klim Award in 2007 and is a Global Young Academy alumni.

Keskitalo was the research coordinator for Sweden's first large Arctic social sciences and humanities research programme, the Mistra Arctic Sustainable Development programme, and for the interdisciplinary PLURAL research programme on the changing forest owner role. The latter programme was part of developing the information portal Northportal, providing popular science summaries of research about forest use (http://www.northportal.info).
