Daniela-Luminita Constantin - Biography#


Professor of Regional Economics and Policy at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies and Director of the Research Centre for Macroeconomic and Regional Forecasting of this university. President of the Romanian Regional Science Association, member of the European Organising Committee of the European Regional Science Association and Councilor-at-Large of the Council of Regional Science Association International (world organisation). Director of the Romanian Journal of Regional Science and member in advisory and editorial teams of highly rated Romanian and foreign scientific journals.

Several research stages abroad as Fulbright Senior Scholar (two grants - at the University of Illionis at Urbana-Champaign, then at George Mason University), DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service – five stages at the universities of Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Heidelberg), Japan Society for Promotion of Science - JSPS, Phare-Tempus scholar (University of Reading, UK and Free University of Amsterdam), the Romanian Academy scholar at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, invited visits at the University of Oxford, University of Seville, University of Lyon, University of Armed Forces of Munich, among others.

Author or co-author (more than half as first author) of many books and articles published in Romania and abroad and coordinator of important national and international research projects (Horizon 2020, FP7, ESPON, etc.). Keynote speaker at scientific meetings in Europe, US, Japan.

PhD student and Post-Doctoral researcher advisor and member in PhD and habilitation assessment committees in Romania, France, Germany.

Rich activity in external service and advisorship (e.g. member of the Monitoring Committee of the Romania’s Regional Operational Programme, national coordinator/expert for studies funded by the European Parliament, European Commission-DG Regio, World Bank, UNESCO, foreign expert – evaluator for the Academy of Finland –Societal Sciences Section, etc.).

Recipient of important awards and honours (e.g. the Researcher of the Year 2018 of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Doctor Honoris Causa of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, RO, the Annual Prize of Jerry Johnson Foundation, University of Wisconsin, US, etc.).

Main scientific interests in regional policy analysis, regional convergence and competitiveness, EU structural assistance, regional and city resilience, regional clusters, migration, etc.
