Alessandro Chiarucci - Biography#


Full Professor of Applied and Environmental Botany at the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, where he is also Head of the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences. President of the Italian Botanical Society. Scientific Director of the Bologna Botanical Garden (2016-2021). Awarded as University of Bayreuth Senior Fellow. Member of the Advisory Council of the "International Association for Vegetation Science". Active member of different scientific and social communities (e.g., WWF Italy). Tutor of several PhD students, some of them highly successful (e.g., Duccio Rocchini, Giovanni Bacaro). Keynote speaker at international congresses (e.g., International Association for Vegetation Science, Chania 2009; International Biogeographical Society, Heraklion 2011; Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation, Tsaghkadzor 2018; European Vegetation Survey, Madrid 2019; Hellenic Ecological Society, Ioannina 2021). Chief Editor (2006-2021) of the Journal of Vegetation Science and Applied Vegetation Science. Subject Editor (2009-2013) of Community Ecology. Reviewer for more than 60 scientific journals. Member of project evaluation panels for several agencies. Responsible of national and international research projects (at present: Coordinator with Carlo Rondinini of the Activity 4.4 “Scenarios of Area-based conservation planning and management“ of the National Biodiversity Future Center, www.nbfc.it, Funding: 3.7M EUR). President of the next European Congress of Conservation Biology (Bologna 2024).
