Academia Europaea position on UK-EU relationship for research – post BREXIT#

The Academia Europaea strongly supports the recent views expressed by the Wellcome Trust in its recent report Building a Strong Future for European Science: Brexit and Beyond.

The Wellcome letter calls on the UK government to negotiate the closest possible linkage and cooperation between the UK science and technology base and European research funding mechanisms in a post-BREXIT world. The Academia Europaea supports this call and hopes that the UK government (as expressed in the UK Government report: Future EU-UK research partnership) will recognise that it is of maximum benefit to the UK that European research is seen as a positive collective enterprise, spanning all countries of the continent - both EU and non-EU, and that in this spirit, we hope that HMG will negotiate a full UK association with European Union research mechanisms.

The Academia Europaea membership is drawn from the entire continent, and we see a fully integrated UK-European research base, as an essential component in securing the future knowledge based economy, research and education for the benefit of all European countries.

For more information on the specific reports see Wellcome Trust; UK Government report on Future EU-UK relationship – research.
