Eduard Zehnder was born 1940 in Leuggern in Switzerland. He studied mathematics and physics from 1960 to 1965 at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) Zürich, where he also completed his PhD degree in theoretical physics in 1971 under the direction of Res Jost.
