Hans Zacher#

Biography#

Hans F. Zacher, born on 22 June 1928 in Erlach-on-Inn (Lower Bavaria). After studies of law, doctorate in law (Dr. Jur.; 1952), professional experience at administrative authorities and courts, Habilitation (1951 – 1963), Professor of public and administrative law at the Saarland University (1963-1971). Since 1971 Professor of public law at Munich University. 1975-1992 Director of the Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Sozialrecht. 1990 - 1996 President of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft. Honorary chairperson of the Deutsche Sozialrechtsverband. Member of the Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften, the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, the Academia Europaea, etc. Honorary degrees from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the University of Wroclaw, the University of Szeged, the University of Athens and the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel). Approx. 300 publications on subjects mainly belonging to constitutional law, German and international social law, social policy and research policy.
