Wei Wang - Biography#


Wei Wang is a Professor in Global Health/Glycomics, Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia, he worked as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (China) of ECU from February 2017 to February 2024.

Prior to joining ECU, Professor Wang was Vice Director-Research of Peking University-Hong Kong University of Sciences & Technology Medical Centre in Shenzhen, Vice Dean of School of Life Science, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dean of School of Public Health and Family Medicine, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China and Professor, Public Health, Edith Cowan University, Australia.

Wei Wang is Secretariat Member of Int Society of Global Health (ISGH), headquartered in Edinburgh, and Australian Representative of European Association for Predictive, Preventive, Personalised Medicine (EPMA). As the regional editor for Journal of Global Health (Edinburgh Univ. Press) and Associate Chief Editor of EPMA Journal (Nature/Springer).

Wei Wang has published more than 300 peer-reviewed publications in the prestigious journals including BMC Med, Engineering, Nat Genet, Nat Rev Cancer, Nat Proceedings, NEJM, Lancet, Lancet Healthy Longevity, Lancet Regional Health, PLoS Genet, PLoS Med, Glycobiology, Hum Genet, J Proteome Res, and Science, among others.

Wei Wang was a member of the expert panel advising the WHO on ‘Grand Challenges in Genomics for Public Health in Developing Countries’. He was also a steering committee member of the OECD initiative on Public Health Genomics. He was a founding member of the Global Health Epidemiology Reference Group (Univ. of Edinburgh, Imperial College London, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Peking Univ., Univ. of Melbourne)

Wei Wang was the Foundation Chief Editor of the journal of Family Medicine and Community Health (BMJ); Associate Editor of OMICS: A Journal of Integrative Biology (Mary Ann Liebert, Inc); Academic Editor of PloS ONE (PloS), Editorial Members of Engineering (Elsevier), Clinical and Translational Medicine (Wiley), and Journal of Human Hypertension (Nature).

Wei Wang was the co-chair of the organizing committee for the EPMA World Congress 2024; Section Chair, BMJ Workshop at the International Forum on the Quality and Safety in Healthcare, 2022; plenary speaker at the Shanghai Cooperation Origination Hospital Alliance Health Forum, jointly hosted by WHO, 2020; plenary speaker at the Australia-China Science Forum, co-organised by the state government of Queensland, Australia and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2019; keynote speaker at the Global Alzheimer’s Leadership Series organised by Alzheimer Association, Paris, 2016; plenary keynote speaker at the World Congress of EPMA, Bonn, 2015.

His conception and patenting of the Suboptimal Health Questionnaire-25 (SHSQ-25) also reflects his strong commitment to innovation in health measurement.

Wei Wang is a grant reviewer of Europe Grants: EU Fp-7 & Horizon 2020, SNSF(Swiss), NHS(UK), WWTF (Austria) and Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ).
