Yuri Tschinkel - Biography#


Prof. Tschinkel received his Ph.D. from MIT in 1992. He was a Junior Fellow of the Harvard Society of Fellows 1992 - 1995, and then a Leibniz Fellow of the EC, at ENS in Paris. After an Assistant Professorship at University of Illinois in Chicago and a visiting position at Princeton, from 1999 - 2003, he moved to the University of Goettingen, as the Gauss Chair of Pure Mathematics, a position he held from 2003 until 2008. Since 2005, he is a Professor at the Courant Institute NYU, where he served as Department chair 2007 - 2011. Since 2012, he is the Director of the Mathematics and Physical Sciences Division of the Simons Foundation. He has edited 19 books and is the author of 135 papers. He is currently serving on 8 editorial boards and numerous advisory boards and panels.
