• 1983 Laurea in Lettere at the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' with a thesis entitled 'Note per una teoria della predicazione (Towards a theory of predication)'. Awarded 110 e lode (the highest possible mark in the Italian system)
  
• 1989 PhD in Linguistics at the University of Pisa with a dissertation entitled 'Sui nomina actionis in italiano' (On action nominals in Italian)
