Dacheng Tao - Biography#


Dacheng Tao is Professor of Computer Science in the University of Technology Sydney.

He applies statistics and mathematics to data analytics and his research interests spread across computer vision, data mining, image processing, machine learning, multimedia, and surveillance. His research results have expounded in one monograph and 400+ publications at prestigious journals and prominent conferences, with many best paper awards, such as the best theory/algorithm paper runner up award in IEEE ICDM’07, the best student paper award in IEEE ICDM’13, and the 2014 ICDM 10 Year Highest Paper Award. He was ranked as a Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson Reuters in 2014 and 2015.

He received the 2015 Australian Scopus-Eureka Prize, the 2015 ACS Gold Disruptor Award, and the 2015 UTS Vice-Chancellor’s Medal for Exceptional Research.

He is/was a guest editor of 10+ special issues, an editor of 10+ journals, including 7 IEEE Transactions. He has delivered more than 50+ research talks at conferences, symposiums, universities, research labs, and companies, including 4 conference keynote speeches. He has chaired for conferences for 60+ times and edited 5 books. He has served for 150+ major conferences and 60+ prestigious international journals.

He has been elected as a Fellow of the IEEE, OSA, IAPR, SPIE, BCS and IET.
