Sonja Smets - Curriculum Vitae#


Since June 2016, Sonja Smets has been scientific director of the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation at the University of Amsterdam.

She is professor of Logic and Epistemology at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation, the University of Amsterdam, holding a double affiliation in the Faculty of Science and the department of Philosophy within the Faculty of Humanties. She has been a member of the council of the International Quantum Structures Association until 2016.

In 2009, she received a VIDI award from the Netherlands Science Foundation (NWO) to lead a research team on the topic Reasoning about Quantum Interaction and in 2011 an ERC starters grant.

She is an associate editor of the journals Foundations of Science and Studia Logica; she is a member of the editorial board of eight journals in logic and philosophy of science (including the Journal of Logic and Computation, Logique et Analyse, Synthese, and the European Journal of Philosophy of Science).

She is a frequent speaker at international conferences and workshops (with over 90 invited lectures at international conferences, over 47 invited lectures at research seminars and more than 65 contributed workshop presentations); her list of recent keynote lectures includes top conferences such as LOFT, FEW, WOLLIC, AiML, CIE.

She has organized and served in the PC of a very large number of international conferences.

She supervised 8 PhD theses (completed) and is currently involved in the supervision of 7 more PhD students.

Her publications include 10 edited volumes, 13 articles in scientific monographs, 37 in journals, and 27 in conference proceedings.
