Professor S. Ravi P. Silva [CBE FREng FCAE (foreign) FEurASc FISC FIET FInstP FRSA DFIETI FNASSL] BA MA PhD (Cantab) CEng CPhys is a Distinguished Professor, and Fellow of eight world leading international learned societies.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • University of Surrey (1995 - Current) : Numerous roles in Senior Management Committees at the University, Faculty, School and Department level that includes: Current Member, University Sustainability Executive, Coordinator, Surrey University-Zhengzhou International Knowledge Hub, University Business Continuity Planning Committee.
  • University of Cambridge (1993 - 1995) - Research Associate, Department of Engineering

EXTERNAL APPOINTMENTS (2001 - Current)

For the last 8 years part of the European Research Council, Advanced Investigator Fellowship Panel and now transitioned to Chair of the Scientific Assessment of Projects. He has held major EU programmes (over Euro 30M of research activities) and over £47M of research grants in the UK over the last 30 years. He has held advisory posts in the EU, UNESCO, and national funding agencies in UK, France, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, Cyprus, etc over the last three decades. Contributions have helped link the global North and South with contributions to science and technology in Sri Lanka and helping to facilitate research collaborations in China, India, Brazil and many other nations via leadership roles in the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK.

  • Include many fellowships and member of either learned societies including: Foreign Academician, Chinese Academy of Engineering, China (FCAE), International Science Council (FISC), European Academy of Sciences (FEurASc) Distinguished Fellow, The International Engineering and Technology Institute (DFIETI), Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), National Academy of Sciences, Sri Lanka, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Institute of Physics, Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and Royal Society of Art.
  • Elected in 2020 as Commander of the British Empire (CBE).
