  • 2010- Head of Department of Biochemistry. Responsible for a Department of c.30 academic staff and their research groups.
  • 2009- Leader of the Molecular and Cellular Biosciences Research Theme.
    Providing scientific leadership within the College of Medicine,Biological Sciences and Psychology.
  • 2006- Professor of Structural Biology, University of Leicester. Leading a research team of 6 postdoctoral scientists, 10 graduate students and 1 experimental officer.
  • 1997-2006: Scientific Group Leader, MRC-Lab. of Molecular Biology, Cambridge. Leading a research group studying the molecular mechanisms of gene regulation with an emphasis on nuclear receptors and co-regulator complexes.
  • 1995-1997: Staff Scientist, Salk Institute for Biological Studies, La Jolla, California. Pursuing structural and functional studies of nuclear receptors in the lab of Prof Ron Evans. Also collaborating with developmental biologists studying limb development.
  • 1991-1994: Postdoctoral fellow, MRC-Lab. of Molecular Biology, Cambridge.//Solved the crystal structure of the DNA binding domain from the oestrogen receptor bound to DNA.
