After his doctoral research in the Class of Humanities, Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa (1972-1977), he pursued a distinguished academic career in various Italian universities (details above in 1.12)

In the period 1996-2017 he has been co-investigator in a series of projects on dialect variation and morphosyntactic structure financed by the principal national research body in Italy PRIN (Programmi di ricerca scientifica di rilevante interesse nazionale).

He has also participated in the international project ‘Distribution and function of ‘partitive articles’ in Romance (DiFuPaRo): a microvariation analysis’ funded since 2017 by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

His impressive publication record includes 6 single and 12 co-authored monographs, 2 edited volumes and some 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
