Ley Sander - Biography#


Josemir W. Sander (also known as Ley Sander) is an academic neurologist with a specialist interest in epilepsy and he is currently ranked as one of the top epilepsy experts globally. He is a Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London & Medical Director of the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy. Sander is also the R&D Director of Stichting Epilepsie Instellingen Nederland (SEIN) in the Netherlands. He has an extensive research portfolio in epilepsy that includes epidemiological aspects, particularly treatment outcomes, pharmacology, management in resource-poor settings and genetic contributions to the aetiology of epilepsy. Sander has extensive experience developing and assessing new therapies for epilepsy, including surgical procedures, modulation devices, and antiseizure medications. He has been actively involved in the clinical development of several antiseizure medications, including lamotrigine, vigabatrin, topiramate, gabapentin, felbamate, tiagabine, levetiracetam, pregabalin, brevitiracetam, lacosamide, retigabine, zonisamide, perampanel, and cenobamate. Sander's GS h-factor is 112, and he has more than 1,000 publications to his name, including articles, reviews, books and book chapters. He is experienced in global academic and institutional engagement and he has established extensive research networks in several countries, including the UK, Netherlands, China, USA, Canada, India, Brazil, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Cameroon, Senegal and Ecuador.
