Marek Sanak - Biography#


Marek Sanak obtained his MD from Jagiellonian University Medical College, Cracow, Poland. After graduation, he specialized in pediatrics and genetics and obtained his Ph.D. at Jagiellonian University. His clinical research is focused on genetics, asthma, and lipid mediators of inflammation. His foreign research experience included the Universities of Harvard, Paris VI, and Zurich at Davos.

The ongoing collaboration of Prof. Sanak involves King’s College London, the University of Southampton, and the University of Zurich. He received numerous awards, including the Lancet investigators award and the Polish Ministry of Health and Social Welfare individual prize. He gave invited lectures for the American Thoracic Society, Japanese Society for Allergology, and European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Allergology.

Prof. Sanak is a clinical geneticist at the University Hospital and is a certified laboratory diagnostician in medical genetics. For 20 years, he has been an expert in forensic genetics. He holds a tenure of Professor, is Head of the Division of Molecular Biology and Clinical Genetics, and is Acting Director, Chair, and Department of Forensic Medicine at the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Cracow, Poland. Since 2016 he has been the Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation at the Medical College, Jagiellonian University in Cracow.

He published over 260 full papers in English, cited more than 9,000 times (h-index 49; Scopus database). In the 2022 ranking of Elseviere, his publications were scored within the top 2% of world scientists.
