Switchable surfaces with photochromic systems

U.S.A. 2007, 104, 9937: We have shown that properly designed azobenzene molecules can form chemisorbed tightly packed SAMs on Au(111) and undergo light-induced trans–cis isomerisation with a high yield, to generate switchable surfaces.
