  • 1970 - 1975 Research assistant at the Danish National Museum 1969. Scholarships at Aarhus University
  • 1975 - 1980 Teaching & research positions at Aarhus University
  • Lecturer 1981; reader 1989; professor 1996 - 2012
  • Since then professor emerita with continued links to the university. Head of department (brief interruptions) 1981 - 1988, 1993 - 2005

Her department was established in 1971. Its first name was: Department of Medieval Archaeology; later: Department of Medieval and Renaissance Archeology; now (after a merge): Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.

1989 - 1992 academic coordinator and editor of catalogue (in four languages) for the Council of Europe’s and the Nordic Council of Minister’s major exhibition ‘From Viking to Crusader. Scandinavia and Europa 800-1200’, shown in Paris, Berlin and Copenhagen.
