Hannu K. Riikonen - Biography#


Hannu Kalevi Riikonen was born in 1948 in Helsinki and took his matriculation in 1966 in the famous Normal Lyceum of Helsinki (a Latin school). He became BA in 1969 and MA in 1970, and PhD in 1978, all degrees at the Helsinki University. Reader in Literary History in Helsinki 1978-1994, the same at the University of Jyväskylä 1979- and that of Joensuu 1981-. Of the professional appointments might be mentioned his appointments as acting (associate) Professor for several times at the Universities of Jyväskylä, Turku and Helsinki. He then got the chair of Associate Professor of Comparative Literature in Turku (1982-1994), the same post in Helsinki (1994-1997), and finally he got his actual chair of Full Professor of Comparative Literature in Helsinki on July 1, 1997. In addition it might be mentioned that he has served as chairman of the Institute for Art Research (1998-2000), and was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts (i.e. Faculty of Humanities) in 2007-2009.
