Timon Rabczuk - Curriculum Vitae#

Timon Rabczuk received his Dr.-Ing. (similar to PhD) from the University of Karlsruhe (nowadays KIT), Germany. After his Dr.-Ing, he spent more than 3.5 years as postdoctoral fellow in the Computational Mechanics group at Northwestern University with Prof. Ted Belytschko. After another app. 1 year postdoc at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, Timon worked as senior lecturer at the Department of Mechanical Department of University of Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. Since 2009, he is chaired professor at the Institute of Structural Mechanics at Bauhaus University .Weimar, Germany.

Timon develops innovative models and computational methods for challenging problems in engineering and materials science involving multiple fields, multiple scales, adaptivity, large deformations, plasticity and damage up to material and structural failure in statics and dynamics for homogeneous and heterogeneous materials. His work bridges the gap between research in natural and engineering sciences. A direct outcome of his work are scientifically proven models, which give fundamentally new insight into the physics of new materials. His research contributes to virtual material design, a key requirement for industrial applications to achieve lightweight structures and for the design of new materials for off-peak energy storage applications. Several of his computational approaches have been implemented into commercial or open-source software and are frequently used by colleagues and PhD students.

Timon published 1 book (2 more books will appear in 2023), 9 book chapters and more than 600 papers. He gave several hundred presentations, many as invited, keynote, semi-plenary or plenary speaker. He graduated so far 38 PhD students and acquired more than 25 million Euros of research funding from national and European research agencies. He is editor in chief of CMC-Computers , Materials and Structures, executive editor of FSCE-Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering, associate editor of International Journal of Impact Engineering, Applied Physics A, 'International Journal of Mechanics and Materials in Design, Underground Space, Defense Technology and editorial board member of several other journals such as Composite Structures, Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, Computational Materials Science,'Finite Elements in Analysis and Design, Computers & Structures, Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics and Engineering with Computers, to name a few.
