Lea Pulkkinen - Research#

My major research project, the ongoing Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development, began in 1968 as a cross-sectional study with 8-year children for my doctoral degree. The study transitioned into a long-term longitudinal study in which the development of the same individuals (originally 369) has been followed up to age 50 (in 2009). The study covers developmental lines in personality, education and work, family, health behavior and health, and criminal behavior.

I have also been interested in interventions for promoting prosocial development in children through day care, school, and parenting. I am proud of my contribution to the reform of school legislation (in 2004) that mandates the Finnish communities to organize afternoon activities for the first and second grade children with the support from the government.
