Barbara Novak - Biography#


Prof. dr. Barbara Novak is full professor of civil and commercial law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana. Her teaching and research work is focused on civil law and in particular, family law, comparative family law and personality rights law.

Barbara Novak joined the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana in 1995 after a two-year traineeship at the Higher Court in Ljubljana and a stage at the Ministry of justice where she passed the state bar exam. Barbara Novak received her doctorate in 1999 and ten years later was elected to the title of full professor.

Barbara Novak fulfilled numerous duties at the faculty and university level: she was head of the Department of Civil Law, member of the faculty senate and served in the University of Ljubljana Habilitation Commission. Barbara Novak has long served as a member of the Council for Children and on the Expert Council for Family at the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.

Barbara Novak holds presently the position of the Vice-Rector of the University of Ljubljana. At the moment she is also a member of the Council of National Library of Slovenia (Narodna in univerzitetna knjižnica), a member of General Assembly of European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), a member of Academic Council of Venice International University (VIU).
