Diana Mishkova - Biography#


A historian by training, Diana Mishkova has specialised in modern and contemporary history of Southeastern Europe. She received her PhD (1989) and Habilitation (2000) from Sofia University, where she taught between 1989 and 2005. Since 2000 she has been the director of the Centre for Advanced Study in Sofia. Foreign Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Doctor Honoris Causa of Södertörn University, Stockholm, Sweden. Her research interests and publications are in the fields of modern and contemporary history of Southeastern Europe, history of historiography, history of modern political thought, nationalism, national identities and identity politics in Southeastern Europe, intellectual history, conceptual history. She is the author of three monographs, has edited eight volumes and published twenty-nine chapters in refereed volumes and thirty-one peer-reviewed articles. Scientific leader or regional coordinator of ten major international projects and participant in another four such projects, incl. an ERC Advanced Grant project (FP7/2007-2013, ERC grant agreement no 230177). She has occupied numerous scientific expert positions, academic positions of trust and served as a member of the editorial boards of major academic journals.
