Hans-W. Micklitz, Professor for Economic Law at the European University Institute, Florence Italy, since 2007, Head of Department, 2012-2014, Director of Graduate Studies 2009-2011, Jean Monnet Chair of Private Law and European Economic Law at the University of Bamberg, Germany (on leave), Finish Distinguished Professor at the University of Helsinki, 2015-2020. Head of the Institute of European and Consumer Law (VIEW) in Bamberg. Studies of law and sociology in Mainz, Lausanne/Geneva (Switzerland), Giessen and Hamburg. Study visits at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute Florence, Italy and visiting professor at the Somerville College at the University of Oxford. Major contributions to the research field

➢ Transformation of private law (Funktionswandel des Privatrechts) in the 20th and 21st centuries of private law from private autonomy to functionalism in competition and regulation, in EU member states and wider Europe under new governance structures

➢ EU/international trade and product safety: The process of Europeanisation and internationalisation of safety and liability of products and services in a European and international economic legal order

➢ Control of commercial practices/standard contract terms and the EU internal market

➢ Citizen participation in the administrative and judicial enforcement of European economic law: co-operation between courts and the preliminary reference procedure, co-operation between administrations in regulatory networks
