Anne May - Biography#


Prof. Anne May is an outstanding candidate for Academia Europaea membership due to her pioneering and sustained contributions to exercise oncology. Since the early 2000s, she has been at the forefront of research on physical exercise in cancer care, leading landmark randomized controlled trials that have directly informed international clinical guidelines and improved patients’ quality of life, treatment tolerance, and prognosis.

She demonstrates strong international leadership and recognition as a founding director of the International Society of Exercise Oncology and as an active member of major international guideline committees. Prof. May has coordinated large European research consortia and established extensive collaborations with leading basic and clinical scientists worldwide, generating high-quality translational evidence at the interface of cancer, lifestyle, and clinical care.

In addition, Prof. May provides significant academic leadership as Director of Research at University Medical Center Utrecht, where she helps shape the institution’s clinical and epidemiological research strategy. She is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of researchers and, based on her scientific excellence and interpersonal skills, serves on several national and international advisory boards.
