Slobodan Markovich - Biography#


Prof. Markovich studied History at the Faculty of Philosophy, Department of History, University of Belgrade (BA 1997), Historical Studies at the University of Cambridge (MPhil 2000). PhD at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Belgrade in Political Anthropology (2004). He has been Full Professor at the Faculty of Political Science, Belgrade since 2014. He teaches Political Anthropology and Studies of Ethnicity, Cultural Anthropology, Image of the Western European “Other”, Identities and Cultures of the Modern Balkan, Modern Political History of South East Europe, Identity and Nationalism in the Balkans. He has been Head of the Centre for British Studies of the Faculty of Political Science since 2018. He has close ties with LSE London, actually as an Associate at LSE IDEAS and at LSEE of the European Institute/LSE. He is co-ordinator of biannual conferences Ψ (Psychoanalysis) and Culture since 2016, organised at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Belgrade. His present research is about "Psychoanalytical Anthropology", starting with Sigmund Freud. He obtained the Krzysztof Michalski Fellowship at the Institute for Human Sciences (Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen – IWM), Vienna (Oct. to Dec. 2023).
