Eleni Mantzourani - Biography#


Eleni Mantzourani is Professor of Prehistoric Archaeology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA). She holds a Ptychion (4-year BA) from the same university, and a M.A. and a PhD in Prehistoric Archaeology from the University of London.

She has been a staff member of the Faculty of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA)since May 1981, when she was first appointed as a Researh Fellow. She has taught and currently teaches various modules in Minoan, Cypriot and Egyptian Archaeology, both at the undergraduate and post-graduate level and has supervised, as main supervisor, a series of completed M.A. (35) and PhD dissertations (16) and post-doctoral projects (6) on related topics. She has also been teaching MOOC modules on Cypriot and Aegean Prehistory, both in Greek and English. She has served in the following administrative Posts at UoA: Member of the UoA Council (2012 - 2016), Director of Postgraduate Studies of the Faculty of History and Archaeology (2009 - 2011, 2018 - 2020), Director of the English taught MA in Greek and Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology (2017 - 2020), President of the Faculty of History and Archaeology of UoA (2011 - 2013), President of the Committee of International Relations and European Educational Programmes of UoA (2010 - 2016).

She was a visiting professor in various universities of Europe (Italy, Spain and Great Britain) and USA (New York, Temple Philadelphia, Bryn Mawr, Cincinnatti, Austin Texas, Berkeley with the financial support of the Institute for Aegean Prehistory).

Her research interests include Minoan Archaeology, Cypriot Archaeology, Aegean Prehistoric Art and Archaeological Survey. She has directed several field projects, both in Cyprus and in Greece and has published 5 books, 2 edited volumes and over 50 papers in journals, conference volumes and co-authored books.
