"The authors firstly constructed a framework for regional multi-compartment probabilistic ecological risk assessment, which was then used is a case study of Cd ecological risk assessment in soil, river water, river sediment, coastal water, and coastal sediment in northern Bohai Rim". "As the authors noted, this paper is a great improvement from traditional ecological risk assessment targeting single species or single environmental compartment rather than ecosystem as a whole". As the international peer scientists commented, it is the first paper to link soil and water pollution, food safety and human health risks together, and "Lu et al made a comprehensive map of soil and water pollution threats to food safety and human health in some cancer villages in China". )
