Junguo Liu - Biography#


Junguo Liu is a Chair Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China.

He was educated at the North China Institute of Water Conservation and Hydroelectric Power (BS, 1999), at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Delft, the Netherlands (MSc 2002), and at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland (PhD 2007).

His professional career brought him full or part-time to the Blackland Research & Extension Center, Temple, Texas, USA (2005), as a Research scientist/Post-doc to the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Sciences (EAWAG), Dübendorf, Switzerland (2007-2009), as a Professor to the School of Nature Conservancy, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing, China (2009-2015), as a visiting scientist to the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Potsdam, Germany (2012–2015), as Senior Cheney Fellow, to the University of Leeds, Leeds, UK (2013-2015), and as a Senior Guest Research Scholar, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Laxenburg, Austria (2018-present).


He was and is editor or associate editor of several scientific journals and acted 8 times as guest editor in prestigious scientific journals. His services to the scientific community were and are many, just to mention a few: a lead author, IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Sixth Assessment Report; president, Society for Ecological Rehabilitation of Beijing (SERB); target leader, Decade Program 2013-2022, International Association of Hydrological Sciences; member, of the Strategic Advisory Council, Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA); member of Technical Advisory Group for Water Use Assessment, Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of UN; etc.
