Kim Meow Liew - Biography#


K. M. Liew received his BS degree from Michigan Tech (1985), MEng (1988) and PhD (1991) degrees from the National University of Singapore. Currently he is Chair Professor of Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He joined CityU in 2005 as Chair Professor and the Founding Director of Centre for Applied Computing and Interactive Media. He was the Head of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering from 2011-2017. Prior to this, he was formerly a tenured full professor, the Founding Director of Nanyang Centre for Supercomputing and Visualisation, and also the Founding Director of Centre for Advanced Numerical Engineering Simulations at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (USA), Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK) and Institution of Engineers (Singapore); a Chartered Engineer registered under the Engineering Council of UK, and a Registered Professional Engineer under the HKIE.

He is listed by: (1) the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) as a Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering (since 2001), and (2) the Clarivate Analytics as the 2018 Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering, and 2019 Highly Cited Researcher in Cross-Field Research.

He is the current Editor-in-Chief of International Review of Civil Engineering (Praise Worthy Prize), and was the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Modeling in Mechanics and Materials (De Gruyter, 2016-2019), Co-Editor-in-Chief of International Journal for Computational Methods in Engineering Science and Mechanics (Taylor and Francis, 2004-2006), Associate Editor of Journal of Vibration and Control and Journal of Nanoscience Letters. He serves as members of editorial board for more than a dozen of journals.
