Françoise Lavocat - Biography#

Françoise Lavocat is currently Professor of Comparative Literature at the University Paris 3-Sorbonne nouvelle, from 2005 promoted to the “first class” of the professorial corps and in 2014 to the “exceptional class”. The subject of her dissertation from 1997 was pastoral novel in Italy, Spain and France in the early modern period whereas her habilitation from 2000 was entitled “Myths, fictions, representations. The fabulous and the creation of literary genres” . She held professorial positions at the University Lumière-Lyon II and then at the University Paris 7-Denis Diderot. From 2000 - 2010 she served as director of the Institute of comparative research in early modern period. Since 2012, she was member of the evaluation committee of the FNRS (National Fund for Scientific Research, Belgium), and member of the scientific board of the European House of Social Sciences and Humanities (MSH). She taught as visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University, Tel Aviv University, Chicago University and Kyoto University among the others and spent one year as fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin (September 2014 - June 2015). She published widely in various languages, next to her native French, i.e. in English, German, Italian, Czech, Russian and Japanese.
