Stefan Kiechl - Biography#


Stefan Kiechl is Professor of Neurology, Professor of Clinical Stroke Medicine and Director of the Department of Neurology at the Medical University of Innsbruck. He is one of the Principle Investigators of the renowned Bruneck Study, Past-President of the Austrian Stroke Society and Principle Investigators of the Tyrol Stroke Network, Stroke Card and many other trials. Stefan Kiechl is the CSO of the Research Centre of Excellence on Vascular Ageing and Stroke in Austria (VASCage, 2019-2027). His main research priorities are all aspects of stroke care and disease management, atherosclerosis and vascular biology, biomarkers, and vascular ageing. He has authored more than 420 publications with an IF more than 1100 including papers in the NEJM, JAMA, Circulation, JACC, and Nature and Lancet Journals. His H-Index is 99. He has received the Research Excellence Award of ESO 2016. He is one of two chairs of the Congress Planning Group of WSO and one of two chairs of the Scientific Program Committee of the WSC 2022. He is member of the Editorial Boards of top Stroke and Vascular Journals.
