At present, he is Executive Director for the Jiangsu Provincial Research Institute of Climatic and Environmental Governance, China.

His scientific career includes long-term visits to Europe. In 1991, he overtook a 6-month project work under support of the Volkswagen Foundation at the Institute of Geography, Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. This was the first stage in his cooperation with European universities and research institutes that has lasted more than 30 years and continued until recently. Three consecutive projects on climate services for water research, human health and climate change adaptation (2018 - 2020) were funded by Met Office and Newton Foundation. The project "Land-atmosphere interaction and its contribution to intense monsoon precipitation over East Asia" (2012 - 2015) was funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology in the Netherlands.
