CURRENT RESEARCH
Aetiology of dementia, especially Alzheimer’s disease and the role of viruses.
INTERESTS
Influence of genetic factors (especially apolipoprotein E) on damage by infectious agents.
Previous interests include chromatin structure (my lab was the first to use nucleases and polylysine to study chromatin structure and its accessibility), and effects of carcinogens on chromatin (my lab was the first to investigate localisation of damage within the genome).

My 1997 paper in The Lancet was listed (by Lipkin and Hornig, Lancet, 352, end of year review, 1998) as one of the 5 key publications in Neurovirology in 1997-1998.
