William Hope - Biography#


Professor Hope is at the forefront of antimicrobial drug development addressing AMR. He is an acknowledged leader in antimicrobial pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamics (PK-PD), including antimicrobial regimen identification and precision therapy. Professor Hope is NIHR National Specialty Co-Lead for Infectious Diseases. Currently, he is leading the development of national platforms for AMR studies.

Professor Hope’s work provides new antimicrobial agents and therapeutic options for the health service. He is an adviser to the US Food & Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency and has authored multiple national and international guidelines. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, a member of the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy Breakpoint Committee and the Specialist Advisory Committee for the Global Antimicrobial Research and Development Partnership. He co-chaired the American Society for Microbiology and European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ASM-ESCMID) joint conference on Drug Development to Meet the Challenge of AMR 2016-2020. Professor Hope was ESCMID’s Medical Guideline Director 2014-2017.

Professor Hope has been an active participant in training networks funded by Wellcome and MRC; he has convened multiple international conferences and supervised 16 clinical and nonclinical MDs/PhDs.
