Paolo Gamba - Biography#


Paolo Gamba is Professor at the University of Pavia, Italy, where he has been leading the Telecommunications and Remote Sensing Laboratory until 2021. He received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering “cum laude” from the University of Pavia, Italy, in 1989, and the Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the same University in 1993.

He is currently the Delegate of the Rector for international relations with USA, Central and South America. He is currently Principal Investigator in projects funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Italian Ministry for External Affairs, and the European Space Agency (ESA). He coordinates the School of Science and Technology of the Consortium of Italian Universities for Argentina (CUIA). He is member of the Mission Advisory Group for the COSMO/SkyMed Constellation by ASI and the Ad-Hoc Expert Group for the Sentinel-2 Next Generation mission by ESA.

He served as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters from 2009 to 2013, and as Chair of the Data Fusion Committee of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) from October 2005 to May 2009. He has been in the GRSS AdCom since 2014 and served as VP for Professional Activities (2016), Executive VP (2017-2018), and GRSS President (2019-2020). He is currently the EiC of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Magazine.

He has been the organizer and Technical Chair of the biennial GRSS/ISPRS Joint Workshops on “Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas” from 2001 to 2015. He also served as Technical Co-Chair of the 2010, 2015 and 2020 IGARSS conferences, in Honolulu (Hawaii), Milan (Italy), and Waikoloa (Hawaii), respectively.

He has been invited to give keynote lectures and tutorials in several occasions about urban remote sensing, data fusion, EO data for physical exposure and risk management. He published more than 150 papers in international peer-review journals and presented more than 300 research works in workshops and conferences.
