Galvin Kathleen Theresa - Biography#


Professor Galvin is a world-leading academic, and leader in her field with over 100 academic publications and books. She was inducted as an international nurse leader to the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society’s network in 2003, Toronto, Canada. She holds an Honorary Doctorate Award from the University of Boras Sweden, in recognition of her work in caring theory and application and role as 'international pioneer' in nursing, building capacity for postgraduate research in nursing. She holds visiting professor positions in Faculties of Nursing in Sweden and Canada.

She is a natural connector of people and ideas and has forged collaborations in nursing, culminating in the creation of the European Academy of Caring Science and in collaboration with the Nordic Colleges of Caring Sciences.

The Lifeworld led care collaboration with international scholars has resulted in multi partner grant applications (for example, i) successful MCSA H20:20, INNOVATEDIGNITY, 9 European partners, seven industry and advocacy organistion partners in Europe, ii) is an external peer support for successful Swedish Government funded research School ‘SHIFT CARE’ in collaboration with University of Boras, University of Gothenburg, funded 3 million to build further research capacity to 2032, within a multiple partner initiative ).

Professor Galvin has sustained series of European co-authored publications in international peer reviewed journals which have attracted high levels of citations in the nursing field and which are applied to practice in several countries.

She has provided research leadership in three institutions in formal roles such as Associate Dean for Research, Deputy Head of School Research, to build research capacity at Bournemouth, Hull and Brighton Universities, many of her mentees hold influential positions leading nursing in Australia, Sweden and UK as professors or postdoctoral researchers.
