Leopoldina Fortunati - Curriculum Vitae#


Professor of Sociology of Communication at the Department of Humanities and Cultural Heritage of the University of Udine.

Leopoldina Fortunati has conducted several research in the field of gender studies, cultural processes and communication and information technologies. She is the author of the book (1981), L. Fortunati, L'arcano della riproduzione. Casalinghe, prostitute, operaie e capitale, Marsilio, Venezia (1981), translated in English (1995) and in Korean (1997).

She is active at cross- European level, and especially in COST networks, where she has represented Italy for 14 years in the COST Technical Committee for Social Sciences and then in the COST Domain Committee “Individuals, Societies, Cultures and Health”, which were the organisation bodies that decided what new actions and research programmes on social sciences have to be approved at the European level.

She is considered an expert on ICTs (and as such involved in many international research projects from China to Canada) and she has been consulted several times by IPTS (Institute for Prospective Technological Studies- European Commission).

She is associate editor of the journal The Information Society and serves as referee for many outstanding journals and publishers.

She is the co-chair with Richard Ling of the International Association "The Society for the Social Study of Mobile Communication" (SSSMC) which intends to facilitate the international advancement of cross-disciplinary mobile communication studies.

Her works have been published in twelve languages: Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish.
