Gerasimos Filippatos - Biography#


Dr Filippatos is Professor of Cardiology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Chair of the Department of Cardiology and Director of the Heart Failure and Cardioncology Units at the Attikon University Hospital, Athens, GR. He was Dean of the School of Medicine, University of Cyprus. He studied Medicine at the University of Patras, GR, and earned his doctorate Cum Laude from the University of Athens. He completed his clinical training in Chicago, USA; and Cambridge, UK. He is past President of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and of the Working Group on Acute Cardiac Care of ESC. He has served in the ESC Practice Guidelines Committee and the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Heart Failure Guidelines Writing Committee and as International Governor of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP).

Dr Filippatos is Senior Consulting Editor for Journal of the American Collegeof Cardiology - HF and has been Associate Editor of the International Journal of Cardiology and European Heart Journal (Impact Factor>35); member of the Editorial Board and Guest Editor of many Cardiology and Critical Care Journals. He has published over 700 articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored more than 30 book chapters including the “Acute Heart Failure” chapter in Braunwald and Oxford Desk Reference: Cardiology. Coeditor of the ESC Texbook of Intensive and Acute Cardiac Care, Oxford University Press, New York, awarded by the British Medical Association.

Honorary Member of many Cardiac Societies: i.e. French, Romanian, Hungarian. He is Doctor Honoris Causa of Semmelweis University, HU and Honorary Fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America. He is in the Thomson Reuters/Clarivate list of Highly Cited Researchers (Top 1% in Clinical Medicine) since 2015. h-index (Google Scholar): 146 (Assessed 12/2022)
