Jonas Ebbesson - Biography#


Jonas Ebbesson, LL.D, is full Professor of Environmental Law at Stockholm University, Sweden, and Director of Stockholm Environmental Law and Policy Centre, both as of 2003. During 2011 - 2021, he acted as Chair of the Compliance Committee of the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (= Aarhus Convention). During 2012 - 2017, he acted as the elected Dean of the Faculty of Law at Stockholm University, having previously served as the Faculty’s vice Dean, 2006 - 2008. He defended his LLD-thesis in environmental law at Uppsala University in 1995, and served as Lecturer at Stockholm University, 1996-2003. He is regularly, since 1997, consulted as expert in issues of environmental law, climate change, international law and human rights, nationally and internationally, due to his broad knowledge, expertise and engagement in these fields. He has also acted as legal counsel before Swedish courts and the European Court of Human Rights on matters relating to environment and health. Due to the significance of his academic scholarship, he was in 2018 elected as Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities (= Vitterhetsakademien)
