Nevena Dakovic - Biography#


Nevena Dakovic (1964) was born in Belgrade where she went to elementary and high school. She obtained B.A. in Comparative Literature in 1987 (University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philology) and B.A. in Cinema and TV Production in 1985 (Faculty of Drama Arts (University of Arts). The M.A. degree she got in 1988 with the thesis „The Problem of Film Reception: Aesthetic and Sociological Aspects“ (University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philology) and Ph.D. in 1992 with the thesis „Hollywood Melodrama: 1940-1960“ (University of Arts, Belgrade).

The doctoral and post doctoral research grants include doctoral research at Sorbonne- Paris VIII (1991) and the British Academy Fellowship (2001).

Since 2005 she is full time professor of Films Studies at the Dept. of Theory and History. As well as the Chair of Interdisciplinary PhD Art and Media Studies at the University of Arts.

She is the author and editor of seven books. Nevena Dakovic publishes widely in the national and international framework (over 70 essays in different books, collections of essays, reviews in UK, Turkey, Slovakia, France, USA, Slovenia), participates at the conferences and lectures at many European and American universities (Oxford, Nottingham, Ankara, Zagreb, Vienna , Ljubljana, Istanbul etc.). Her research is focused on the issues of identity (mainly national, multicultural), history (Holocaust and wars) and memory. She presented her work at number of conferences (Yale, LSE, Paris VIII, Udine, Dublin, Thessaloniki, Crete, etc.) and she is the member of research groups (Serbia, UK, France and Bulgaria, as well as coordinator of TEMPUS and COST projects).

She is fluent in English, French and Italian language.

Nevena Dakovic lives in Belgrade with her son and husband.
