Giovanni Alberto Cecconi - Biography#
After completing his military service and doctoral studies (1987 - 1992), Giovanni Cecconi held tenured academic positions at the University of Florence between 1995 and 2015, ultimately attaining the rank of Full Professor of Roman History. He has participated in numerous international research projects and conferences, served as a visiting professor, and delivered invited lecture series across Europe and the United States. In addition, he has held several institutional and academic appointments in the fields of Roman History and Classics, both at the University of Florence and at the national level.
His scholarly output comprises approximately 180 publications with national and international publishers, including reviews, monographs (six volumes, excluding edited editions), articles, and review essays. His principal research interests, together with further professional information, are detailed in his extended curriculum vitae.
A concise evaluation of his professional profile and scholarly expertise—limited specifically to his competence in Latin epigraphy—may be found in the assessment accompanying the award of funding for the 2022 Project of National Interest, of which he is Principal Investigator. In that context, he is described as “a world-leading epigraphist, with an international profile and long-standing experience in project management.”(https://prin2022-sportello.cineca.it/Valutazione
). [OUTSIDE ACADEMIA, in 1986 I obtained the international title of FIDE Master from the World Chess Federation; and have published some technical and historical articles in chess magazines. I also have about a hundred articles, reviews and discussions on cinema published over the years in the online cultural magazines Agenzia Radicale and Alleo.it.]
