Christopher Bean - Biography#


Chris Bean was an undergraduate student in University College Dublin from 1980 obtaining his BA in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics in 1983. From 1983 to 1984 he studied for an MSc in Applied Geophysics in the National University of Ireland, Galway, and then from 1985 to 1989 for a PhD in Seismology under the late Professor Brian Jacob in the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and the University of Karlsruhe. His PhD was awarded by Trinity College Dublin in 1989.

From 1989 to 2015, apart from periods as a visiting scientist in Grenoble and Stanford, he was employed by University College Dublin rising to full Professor of Geophysics and Director of the University's Earth Institute before in 2015 accepting his current post of Senior Professor and Head of Geophysics in the School of Cosmic Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
