**Jelle Barentsz - Biography**

Dr. Barentsz earned his MD degree in 1980 and pioneered in utilizing MRI technology for non-neurological diseases. His doctoral research, completed in 1990, focused on bladder MRI. Since 1998, he has held the position of professor of radiology.

As an expert clinical radiologist and researcher specializing in prostate cancer (PCa) imaging and biopsy, Dr. Barentsz employs imaging techniques to combat cancer. He is known for creating and validating cutting-edge (molecular) imaging techniques that directly benefit patients. He established the Prostate MR Reference-Expert Center (PMRC) and currently works at Andros Clinics, bridging the gap between non-academic and academic clinical research.

In 2012, he introduced PI-RADS, which has since become the global standard for PCa-MRI. His "4M" paper was one of the papers, that revolutionized PCa guidelines, making PCa-MRI a prerequisite before biopsy. This innovation saves over a million men from unnecessary 12-needle biopsies annually and reduces overdiagnosis and thus overtreatment by 50%.

Dr. Barentsz played a pivotal role in reviving ferumoxtran-10 MRI (nano-MRI) by utilizing dextran ultra-small iron oxide particles (USPIO) as MRI contrast agents to detect 2 mm lymph node metastases (LNM). His work has led to the initiation of a marketing approval trial. Nano-MRI is capable of visualizing vessels, vessel wall pathology (vulnerable plaques), and degenerative brain diseases by showing the macrophages that are the cause of these diseases.

He is the leading author of 366 papers, with a h-index of 96 and 37,868 citations. Additionally, he serves as the imaging editor of European Urology (IF>20) and has supervised 40 successful PhD candidates.

Dr. Barentsz is a highly sought-after lecturer, renowned for his world-famous presentations and interactive workshops in urology and radiology, inspiring others to excel in their research endeavours.

He has received numerous accolades, notably the 'Innovators in Urology Award' from European urologists, making him the first non-urologist to be honoured with this distinction. Through PMRC, he provides patients access to the latest advancements in imaging research techniques, including mpMRI, nano-MRI, 18F/68Ga PSMA PET-CT, theragnostic, and MR-guided focal therapy.

2. Establish a research centre for nano-MRI, centred on visualizing macrophages to detect and treat small LNM, diagnose multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer's (potentially), and quantify vessel diseases.

3. Create an international network of experts in prostate research MRI.

4. Offer international courses for radiologists and urologists to become experts in their respective fields.

5. Develop nano-batteries based on enzymes and glucose that selectively kill cancer cells.
