Björn Wiemer received his PhD in Slavic and general linguistics in 1996 (Hamburg University). He worked as research assistant at the chair of Slavic Languages at Constance University from 1996 to 2003. Subsequent to his postdoctoral thesis (2002, venia for Slavic and Baltic linguistics), he continued doing research and teaching at Constance University until 2007, when he was appointed the chair of Slavic Linguistics at Mainz University.
