  • 2020 Recipient of the annual R. H. Whittaker ‘Distinguished Ecologist’ award from the Ecological Society of America, awarded to one ecologist each year.
  • 2018 Selected by the Journal of Ecology as their Eminent Ecologist for 2018 (accompanied by a Special Virtual Issue of the journal consisting of several of David Wardle’s articles).
  • 2018 Author of paper published in 1995 selected for Citation Classic commentary and author profile in the leading soil science journal Soil Biology and Biochemistry.
  • 2016 Rosén´s Linneus Prize in Botany, awarded every three years to one plant scientist by the Royal Physiographic Society in Lund, Sweden.
