Antonio Somaini - Biography#


Antonio Somaini has taught in several Universities and Research centers in Milan, Venice, Parma, Berlin, Weimar, Paris. Since 2012 he is Full Professor in the best film and media University in France, Paris 3. He has been active both in technical schools (Milan Polytechnic) and in departments of film and aesthetics. He is member of the Steering Committee of the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies and is Director of the book series Images, médiums for the publisher Mimésis (5 books published since 2014).

He is internationally recognized as specialist of Eisenstein and montage theories.

He edited and co-edited several important books on Eisenstein and on film theory in various countries, and edited in 2001 the 500 pages catalogue of the Milan Exhibition Il dono / The Gift (Milan: Charta).

In 2016, for Cambridge Scholar, he published a study on perception: “The Medium of Perception: Walter Benjamin’s Media Theory and the Tradition of the Media Diaphana », in Žarko Paić Theorizing Images. He studies questions of perspective “Prospettiva geometrica e prospettiva metaforica”, in G. A. Massari (Ed.), Tempo forma immagine dell’architettura. Scritti in onore di Vittorio Ugo (Roma: Officina, 2010)

He has published with prestigious Italian publishers such as Einaudi in Turin and Edizioni officinal in Rome.
