Min Qiu - Biography#


Dr. Qiu received his BSc and PhD degrees in Condensed Matter Physics from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 1995 and 1999, respectively, and he earned a PhD in Electromagnetic Theory from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden in 2001.

From 2001 to 2009, he held various academic positions (Assistant Professor in 2001, Associate Professor in 2005) at KTH in Sweden, ultimately becoming a Full Professor in Photonics in 2009. During his tenure, his outstanding research among his peers led to prestigious grants such as the "Future Research Leader" program from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research and the Senior Researcher Specialized Grant from the Swedish Research Council. In 2010, Dr. Qiu joined Zhejiang University in China, where he also served as the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Instrumentation. In 2018, he continued his academic journey at Westlake University as Guoqiang Chair Professor.

He has authored over 330 journal publications and contributed to over 100 invited talks. His work has received over 23,000 citations with an h-index of 80, placing him among the distinguished scholars in nanphotonics.

Since joining academia, he has secured significant funding for his research, contributing to various national and international projects. He has supervised and co-supervised 40 PhD students and 22 Master's students, demonstrating his commitment to mentoring the next generation of researchers. In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Qiu has served as a referee for numerous professorial promotions at prestigious institutions worldwide. He is a fellow of IEEE, OSA, SPIE, COS, and CSOE, which reflects his esteemed status in the scientific community. Dr. Qiu has also co-founded Westlake Instrument (Hangzhou) Technology Co., Ltd. and Moldnano (Hangzhou) Technology Co., Ltd.—valued at 800 million RMB and 1 billion RMB, respectively—aiming to translate his scientific innovations into practical industrial applications.
