Academic activity

Angelo Peccerillo has been working as assistant professor, associate professor of Volcanology and, finally, as full professor of Petrology at the Universities of Florence, Messina, Cosenza and Perugia, where he is presently serving as full professor of Petrology. He has been visiting scientist at several national and international research centres (e.g. Australian National University, University of Gottingen, University of Paris XI at Orsay, etc.) where he performed research activity and gave seminars and classes to MSc and PhD students. He has been member of several national and international panels for the evaluation of research projects (NSF, ESF, CNR, MIUR, NATO, etc.) and of the scientific activity of universities (e.g. Padua and Siena Universities).

He has been the supervisor of several MSc and PhD theses both at his and other universities, both in Italy and abroad. He has been Department Head and Coordinator of PhD programs at the Universities of Messina, Cosenza and Perugia.

He has been President of the Italian Petrology Group.

He is Member of Academia Europaea.

He has been associate editor or member of the editorial board of the "European Journal of Mineralogy", "Acta Vulcanologica" and "Periodico di Mineralogia". He has been topic editor, for Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, of the Encyclopedia of Life Support System (EOLSS) printed by UNESCO. He has been guest editor of several special issues of both national and international journals, e.g. Acta Vulcanologica, Chemical Geology and Lithos. He has been Chief Editor of the "European Journal of Mineralogy" from 2006 to 2008. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journals "Lithos", "Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research", "Geological Society of Italy Bulletin", "Open Mineralogy Journal".

Scientific research of Angelo Peccerillo has been focused on the petrology and geochemistry of magmatic processes. For his scientific activity he has been awarded the Feltrinelli Medal, one of the most prestigious scientific prizes in Italy, by the Accademia Italiana dei Lincei, for the year 2006. He is author or co-author of some 150 scientific papers, mostly published on peer review international journals, several popular and didactic publications, and scientific books published with both national and international printers.
